Shahista Dhanji

Deputy Head and Key Stage 2 Teacher

BA (Hons) in Early Childhood Studies & Graduate Teacher Programme

Hello, I’m Shahista Dhanji, the Home Room Teacher for Year 3 and Deputy Head of School at Maple Bloom Elementary.

Welcome to our school! As the new Deputy Head, I am delighted to extend a warm welcome to all families. Our school is proud to offer fantastic facilities that enhance our students' learning experience and foster a vibrant, inclusive community where every child can thrive and achieve their full potential.

As a competent and organised teacher who is committed to promoting the education and well-being of children, I believe that my qualifications and experience offer a variety of skills that I have accumulated in over 15 years of experience, teaching in the United Kingdom and Tanzania.

Having taught the British Curriculum and working with a team of outstanding teachers has securely embedded and enhanced my passion to teach, allowing children to develop a real love for learning.

I relocated to Tanzania 10 years ago, where I started teaching the IB curriculum which provided a valuable insight into the PYP standards and student-led learning. I have also successfully taught the Cambridge Curriculum in different schools in Dar-es-salaam where as a full-time teacher and Key Stage 1 Coordinator, I was committed to supporting and managing a start-up school’s growth and development. Furthermore, I have delivered training to staff in schools as well as outside organisations on how to develop and implement effective classroom strategies and how to provide students with the best learning opportunities.

My personal ethos as an educator is that students should progress and achieve excellence by creating a balance between guided teaching and unstructured learning, where students are able to adapt, grow and draw on their own conclusions. I firmly believe that learning should be fun as the process encourages children to retain their learning and enhance their experiences.

I would like to take this opportunity once again to offer a warm welcome to Maple Bloom. We look forward to having you on board.
